  • How do VARs and resellers find information about IT vendors and current trends?

The IT security market is changing all the time and that affects companies and private users.

There are new and growing areas such as big data, cloud computing or ‚bring your own device‘  where IT security players can apply themselves.

COMPRiS carried out a survey in September and asked 481 resellers about the following topics:

-    Which areas are the ones in demand by the customers?
-    Which IT vendors offer the most successful solutions in these areas?
-    Which trends do the resellers expect in the next year?

The survey results are as follows.

85 % of the infrastructure resellers offer IT security. Only 15% of the resellers don’t participate in this successful business and leave it to other resellers.

Firewall, backup and end-point security at the top

Firewall is the most popular area in IT security. 76% of the customers are especially interested in protection against network intrusions. In the second place is backend/disaster recovery with 66% of customers  interested in this topic.

The same number of the participants consider mobile security to be similarly important. For 13% of the participants backup/disaster recovery represents a trend for the coming year whereas 9% predict that cloud security will be a relevant topic next year.

Conclusion

The results of the survey show that firewall, backup/disaster recovery and endpoint security still remain an important topic in the area of security. The majority of resellers don’t have an opinion about which trends will influence security business next year however they are convinced that IT security across the board will remain relevant. Furthermore new developments such as mobile security is becoming more important.

The survey makes it clear that IT security is one of the most important areas in IT. However it is questionable if the general public has the same perception. A lot of customers see security in the background of the upstream processes  as  IT has to function and be dependable.

New topics and developments such as cloud, MDM or Big Data are going to determine the  IT market including security areas. Therefore it is important for the IT security  to point out to the customers both existing and new what dangers lie ahead.

There are opportunities especially in the channel to make partners aware of these issues and to push security to the centre of attention.
